Float Balls & Rod
A floating valve is a type of valve that uses a ball that floats on top of a liquid to control the flow of the liquid. The ball is connected to a lever that can be used to open and close the valve. The ball floats when the valve is open, allowing the liquid to flow.
United Brass Works float balls are oval 4”x5” or round 5”, both of which are copper. The rod that connects the float ball to the valve. Our rod is 10” and comes with brass nuts. Both the balls and the rod are threaded.
Float Balls
Float balls float on liquids and control the flow of fluids, while rods, also known as remote valve actuators or reach rods, operate valves that are hard to reach. Float balls can be used in many industries, including water management, boiler systems, refrigeration, and oil fields. Rod valves are often used for submerged valves above or below human reach, confined spaces, or radiated areas.
The float valve can stop, distribute, and alter the direction of liquid flow within a pipeline. Its main features are the seats’ sealing design, which automatically relieves pressure, reliably seals when flows reverse, and acts as a locking device.
Float balls are ideal for boiler systems, oil fields, water management, and refrigeration. Nearly every industry that requires liquid-level controls, measurements, and control switches needs float balls, and having the correct float balls can mean the difference between success and dangerous equipment failure.
The Rod
There may be unforeseen factors, such as turbulence or pressure surges in your system, which may affect the float valve’s performance. There may be instances where you need to either increase the length of the rod for increased mechanical leverage or increase the float ball diameter for additional buoyancy. The longer the rod and larger the float ball, the greater the closing pressure of the plunger against the float valve seat. United Brass Works offers a 10” threaded rod off the shelf, but if you need another size, we can custom-make it for you.
