Melting Foundry

When creating brass components for your project, it is essential to work with an expert foundry that has a comprehensive understanding of materials, industry standards, and the unique features required for high-demand industries.

UBW’s Keystone Foundry helps you design and produce custom, high-quality, pressure-tight red brass casting components for a variety of applications.  We use precise temperature control, high-quality alloys, and detailed molds to create custom products that meet the unique needs of Original Equipment Manufacturers(OEMs) in various high-demand industries.

These rigorous quality control methods ensure that your chosen alloy retains the required chemical composition and properties when melted, enabling it to perform in high-demand applications.

The Melting Process

Bronze ingots, which weigh upwards of 20 lbs. each, are delivered to the foundry in the shape of bricks. When a job is ready to run, the ingots are placed in one of our electric furnaces and melted for pouring.

Most bronze alloys that Keystone pours melt at around 2350° F. Once melted, the metal is poured at a temperature between 2000°F and 2200°F, depending on the desired wall thickness of the casting.

Low lead alloys have a slightly lower melting temperature, around 2250° F, and are poured between 2100° F and 2175° F.

Maintaining the appropriate pouring temperature is critical for ensuring a pressure-tight casting.
